MARKOPOLO Internal course | Disease Maps and Systems Biology Graphical Notation

24 June – 7 July 2025

Intensive two-week course in the format of a workshop for efficient learning of the Disease Maps approach and the Systems Biology Graphical Notation (SBGN) standard. The SBGN standard allows building both human- and machine-readable diagrams – pathway-level representations of molecular mechanisms. A disease map is a conceptual model of disease mechanisms that is developed in the SBGN standard. It can be converted/exported to SBML format for computational modelling. Often, a disease map is a hierarchically organised system of multiple diagrams and several levels of granularity.

2025 GO Wasser – Scothub

The Global Outreach Projects offer education for global citizenship which aims to equip all participants with the skills and understanding to take responsibility, value diversity and play an active part in European democratic life today. To this end, the JGU Scotland HUB at Johannes Gutenberg-Universität Mainz (JGU) is organising a Blended Intensive Programme (BIP) called “2025 GO Wasser”.

MARKOPOLO coordinator Andreas Daiber will give a teaching lecture on 17 June 2025 on the topic of: “Water pollution and cardiovascular diseases“.

Summer School – Forum Acusticum Euronoise 2025

The EAA Summer School will take place from Saturday, June 21, until Sunday, June 22, 2025, preceding the Forum Acusticum Conference (FA2025) at the facilities of the Universidad de Málaga, Spain.

💸 Fees: only 100 €
🔗 More info: www.fa-euronoise2025.org/summer-school

This summer school explores the critical link between the urban sound environment and health, including how the short term physiological and psychological effects of sound can lead to chronic diseases. Participants will gain insights into spatial planning and noise mapping, health risk assessment, interpreting epidemiological study findings, the difference between association and causation, and how to convert health risks into economic costs. In a practical session we will explore how these studies can be translated into policies and inform decisions at a local level. By the end, you’ll leave with strategies to enhance the impact of your research and a deeper understanding of the role of environmental sound in urban health.

Organizer: Laura Estévez-Mauriz and Martin Röösli
Key trainers: Martin Röösli, Benjamin Fenech, Efstathios Margaritis, Laura Estévez-Mauriz
