About SWISS TPH
The Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute (Swiss TPH) is a globally recognized center for research, education, and services in public health, focusing on improving health and well-being worldwide, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. With a multidisciplinary approach, Swiss TPH integrates innovation, validation, and application to address pressing health challenges through a strong network of international collaborations.
Environmental Exposures and Health at Swiss TPH
Within Swiss TPH, the Environmental Exposures and Health Unit investigates how various environmental factors influence human health. Researchers develop and apply novel methodologies to assess exposures to transportation noise, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, ambient and indoor air pollution, environmental tobacco smoke, pesticides, and climate change effects. The unit conducts epidemiological studies on respiratory diseases, cardiovascular conditions, neurodegenerative disorders, and childhood tumors, contributing to public health policies through health risk assessments, systematic reviews, and regulatory guidelines.
Swiss TPH’s Role in MARKOPOLO
As part of the MARKOPOLO project, Swiss TPH plays a key role in assessing the health effects of environmental pollutants, co-leading three work packages (WP):
- WP4: Improving the estimation of environmental exposures on cardiovascular health.
- WP5: Evaluating human health risks from air pollutants and noise in combination with other environmental factors.
- WP6: Developing tools for integrated environmental health impact assessment and health risk management.
