About UNIPD
The Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Padova represents a unique and internationally recognized reality of interdisciplinary research based on three fundamental scientific areas: Physiology, Pathology, and Biochemistry. The research at the department focuses on the investigation of the molecular and biochemical mechanisms underlying organ function and dysfunction in the context of the human health, as well as development of innovative therapeutic strategies. With 91 faculty members and 300 units of research personnel, the department is currently one of the pillars for preclinical teaching within the School of Medicine. Moreover, the department offers a course in Biology of Human and Environmental Health and a PhD program in Biomedical Sciences. According to the latest evaluation, the department represents the most prominent institution in Physiology at the national level, with Biochemistry and Pathology also at the apical levels. The department is also the reference hub for the National Center for Gene-based Therapy, one of the five national research centers funded by the European recovery fund.
